One day a couple of years ago, my friends invited me to a roller derby bout by Roc City Roller Derby. I was instantly hooked. The next year I became a season-pass holder with suicide seats - which puts you right next to the action.

But that wasn't enough... Toward the end of the season I decided to become more involved, and started training as an NSO ("Non-Skating Official"). In derby you get to choose an alias, and mine became Davie Darko, after my favorite movie, Donnie Darko. NSOs do things like keep track of points, penalties and lineups. I've enjoyed doing it this entire last year.
